The history of Briarwood Mall began with the vision to develop a major retail destination for the Ann Arbor area. The original developer, The Taubman Company, established Briarwood Mall as a central point for future development in the area. Over the past five decades, the shopping center has gone through many changes and continues to strive to be an inviting and entertaining shopping destination to bring the community together. Once Briarwood Mall opened on October 3rd, 1973, it played an important part in the growth of the local tourism and retail industries. It was a major appeal for first-to-market retailers,celebrity appearances, and significant events. It has continued to thrive with numerous developments and renovations over the years. Just two miles south of the University of Michigan, Briarwood Mall remains the major retail hub for the Ann Arbor market today. With many select local specialty shops, 14 eateries, 85 shops, and family-friendly amenities, its’ unique mix creates a completely new and refreshing experience with every visit. It is now the premier shopping destination in Washtenaw County.
